First step - First day of your period
The very 1st day of the IVF cycle begins from the 1st day of your menstrual cycle.
Second step – Ovary stimulation
Yes, the stimulation stage starts right from first day. Your ovaries produce one egg in a natural monthly cycle.
Your doctor will ask you to take medications for about 8-14 days to boost the follicles present in your ovaries.
While going through the infertility treatment in Punjab or any of the IVF centres in your city, your IVF specialist would prescribe medications after examining your health and would create a treatment plan accordingly.
Third step - Egg retrieval
Egg retrieval is a procedure where you need to be hospitalized for a day as the eggs are picked from the ovaries. The process is carried out under general anaesthesia. The procedure takes about 20-30 minutes.
Fourth step- Fresh sperm used
If you are among those couples who wish to use fresh sperm, then the fresh sperm from male is taken as a sample. In case you wish to use donor or frozen sperm, the doctors already have it in their laboratory.
Fifth step – Egg Fertilisation
Your IVF specialist in one of the best IVF centres in Punjab or any other city you are residing at would hand over the eggs collected to the scientists. The eggs need to be fertilized as soon as they can be. The eggs along with sperm are put together so that they can fertilise as they would by natural means inside your body.
Sixth step- Development of Embryo
In case the sperm fertilises successfully with the egg, it turns into an embryo. The embryo is then placed into a special incubator which holds the perfect conditions for the growth of the embryo.
Seventh step - Embryo transfer
The process of embryo transfer is quite simple and resembles the Pap smear process. It just takes around 5 minutes and you can get up without any difficulty.
Eighth step - Blood test to detect pregnancy
After two weeks of embryo transfer, the doctors will conduct your blood test to check the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) levels.
When hCG hormone is present in your blood stream means the blood test will be positive for pregnancy.
Understanding the entire IVF process (step by step) would help you to be stress free during each phase.
